On Wednesday, August 26th, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, Disability Services and Alcorn State University (ASU) H.E.R.O.S. hosted the university’s first Resource Fair.
The event allowed students to learn and connect with campus resources focused on health, well-being, and success. Attendees had the opportunity to meet representatives and explore services including counseling, academic support, ASU H.E.R.O.S., career services, health and wellness, assistive technology, vocational rehabilitation, financial aid, religious and spiritual life, and local organizations. The Fair also featured refreshments and giveaways and was open to all students.
Disability Coordinator, Alice M. Byther, is responsible for planning the event. She stated, “We want incoming Freshmen to know the resources available to them.” Byther plans to do another Resource Fair in the Spring and implement a resource week to focus on a resource each day.
Byron Smith Jr., Vice President of ASU H.E.R.O.S, stated, “What I enjoy about having a Fair is I think it’s good for students to learn what we have on campus. Especially at this age because a lot of people deal with mental issues.”
