On Wednesday, September 15th from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm in the Industrial Technology Building in the Assembly Room on the first floor, the Mass Communications Department held its annual Meet & Greet. The gathering is designed for students to learn more about their major, get to know one another and how they can be a part of the Department.
The program began with each faculty and staff member introducing themselves. The Mass Communication’s faculty members consist of Associate Professor, Toni Terrett, Associate Professor/Program Coordinator, Dr. Eric Dogini, Assistant Professor, Larry Sanders, Coordinator of ASU TV-13 (Alcorn’s TV station), Curtis Aaron and Assistant Professor, Dr. Randrika Henderson. Staff members from WPRL 91.7 FM (Alcorn’s radio station), who also attended the meeting, were Administrative Assistant, Myrtle Hedrick, Gospel Director, Jerome Myles, Operation’s Manager, Charles Edmond and Disc Jockey/Producer, Gemario Brooks. “This is an event that I look forward to every year. It gives me and my colleagues an opportunity to converse with the students and find out what’s on their minds which is crucial to discovering what they are interested in for their major and us implementing it into the curriculum,” stated Sanders.
After the faculty and staff introductions, the students introduced themselves and stated what their expectations were for the academic school year. Shortly thereafter, two students, Graduating Senior, Jowani Jones and Junior, D’Anthony Lilly shared with the audience their experience attending the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention on August 12-16 in Atlanta, Georgia. Jones stated, “I encourage each and every one of you to join the NABJ. The experience D’Anthony and I received was invaluable. We met so many gracious individuals who were willing to help us improve upon our skill set and for that I am very appreciative.”
