Landon Badon, 20, a Junior majoring in Mass Communications from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, has become the new Mr. Mass Communications 2026-2027 at Alcorn State University (ASU).
Badon is a 2024 graduate of Harrison Central High School where he was involved in the Vocational-Technical (Vo-Tech) class that dealt with automobiles, football and track. His parents are Sophia Porter and Brandon Badon. “My parents are the reason that I drive myself so hard. They pushed me to become the best that I could possibly be. They support me in every endeavor and for that I will always be grateful to them,” stated Badon.
After graduation, Badon chose Alcorn because a family member had attended the university and he remembers going to home football games and enjoying the environment and the positiveness that the institution had to offer. He chose Mass Communications because he enjoys making videos and taking pictures. He added, “Since I’ve been at Alcorn, Mass Communications has taught me so much about behind the scenes of the business and how I can improve upon the knowledge that I have already amassed.” While in the Department, Badon has had his own podcast entitled ‘Diverse Perspectives’, his own radio show on WPRL 91.7 FM (Alcorn’s radio station) entitled, ‘Straight No Chaser’, a student videographer for SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) TV, a writer for The Campus Chronicle (Alcorn’s online newspaper), a member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), and Men’s Coalition.
As Mr. Mass Communications 2026-2027 Badon’s vision is that of unity. “I plan on hosting numerous Meet & Greet events for my fellow majors. I’d love for us, as a Department, to go to conferences around the United States hosted by the NABJ. My goal is to leave the Department better than when I arrived and with God’s help I will definitely do that.”
