The Alcorn State University (ASU) Lady Braves (0-10, 0-0) Volleyball team fell to the University of Alabama (7-1, 0-0) in three sets Wednesday, September 16th at Foster Auditorium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Alabama defeated Alcorn State 3-0 with set scores of 25-11, 25-19 and 25-18.
The Lady Braves struggled to find their rhythm in the opening set. Alcorn recorded four kills in the first set, while Alabama took control early and earned a 25-11 win. Alcorn responded with a stronger performance in the second set, recording eight kills and staying closer to the Crimson Tide. Alabama was still able to close out the set, 25-19.
Alcorn continued to battle in the third set. The Lady Braves recorded seven kills with only four attack errors, their best hitting percentage of the match at .130. Alabama finished the set with a 25-18 victory to complete the sweep.
Courtney Carter and Rylan Jones led Alcorn offensively with six kills each. Carter also added two service aces and seven digs, finishing with a team high eight points. Alexis Burton added three kills, while Ki’ara Knight-Thompson recorded two service aces.
Daylin Saiki helped run the Lady Braves’ offense with a team high 11 assists and also led Alcorn with eight digs. Juliana Henao added five assists, while Alcorn finished the match with eight service aces and 26 digs as a team.
Alabama was led offensively by Laney Hennessee, who finished with 15 kills and three service aces. Mya Allen added eight kills, while Addison Engel recorded seven. The Crimson Tide finished the match with 46 kills and a .355 hitting percentage.
The Lady Braves’ next match will be on Friday, September 25th in Lorman, Mississippi against SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) opponent the Grambling State University Lady Tigers (3-8, 0-0) at 6:00 pm.
