On Thursday, September 17th at 1:00 p.m., Dr. Antwon Woods, Dean of the School of Business at Alcorn State University (ASU) and Senior Marketing major, Tynia Killingsworth, hosted Episode 1 of “The Dean’s Table” which was located in the Rudolph Waters Classroom Building in the Brian K. Johnson Auditorium. This event was about ‘real voices, real insight, and Business, with students getting a seat at the table.’
The guest speaker for the event was Lashonda Tenner, Senior Human Resource Business partner at the Netwatch Group. Netwatch is a technology engaged security company that leverages technical companies such as artificial intelligence. Before her current position, Tenner was the Director of Human Resources for Allied Universal. She is currently pursuing a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence at Alcorn where her research focuses on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on work force transformation in the future of work.
Tenner filled the classroom with her positive energy as she answered questions involving time management, internships, mind control within the Business field, and advice on how to be successful. She encouraged the students to be aggressive readers by stating, “Reading is definitely a must in this and other fields and they require you to be researchers. So reading is essential.”
Navaeh Peace, a Senior Business Marketing major, shared how the event helped her understand her career opportunities. Peace stated, “It showed me the many career opportunities, especially with her coming from a very small town and seeing how hard she worked to get to the position that she is in now. I also liked that she did not let her negative experiences within her life stop her. It really showed me where I want to go with my career.”
Jalen Hardman, a Freshman Sports Management major, also shared how the event helped him gain knowledge about the Business field.
Hardman stated, “Today’s forum helped me because it explained different strategies that Ms. Tenner used in the Business field to help her, which will also help me in the long run.”
